Whale sharks

Swimming with whale sharks is on my bucket list. A few years ago I met Estrella Navarro at the Honolulu airport, she sat next to me at the sushi bar and laid her backpack on the floor between our seats. I couldn’t help noticing her long diving fins, sticking up a couple of feet out of her back pack, so we engaged in a long conversation about diving. Estrella is not only the Mexican apnea diving champion, she is also an environmentalist and a strong protector of the whale sharks in her town of La Paz in the Sea of Cortés, Mexico.

I was so blown away by the photos she showed me that I had to make paintings of it, well this board is one of them. A small reminder that we must help and protect these gentle giants.

Original art on surfboard, this board has been shaped on a repurposed polyurethane blank, using acrylic paints and Posca markers underneath the polyester resin that has a gloss polished finish.

73×19″, comes with a steel plate hanging bracket, that is super easy to hang.

Although the surfboard shape is meant to be functional, it’s not meant to be surfed on, but to be displayed as an art piece.
