“Malolos”

The Malolos have long been one of my icons, a fascination that began during my sailing days in Waikīkī as crew on the Mana Kai catamaran with the legendary innovator, Woody Brown. For this piece, I wanted to take a different approach—working with subtle tones against the pale surface of Paulownia wood. The board was painted using a technique I first developed in the late 1980s, layering @posca_usa inks directly onto a finished board, then sealing it with a UV acrylic varnish for depth and durability.
