Turtle Bay Surfboard

Painted this piece to be displayed at Turtle Bay Resort on Oahu’s North Shore. The Honus have been part of my work for the past seven years or so, I made a couple of surfboards with them and even a pattern with them that was used by Guess Jeans on swim shorts and T shirts.

On this particular piece I made a pattern of Ulu leaves , since it’s part of the Turtle Bay logo. The Ulu tree is known as the “Breadfruit”.

The idea behind using turtles is to create awareness because even though they are protected in Hawai’i not every visitor knows that, so keep a distance enjoy them and do not touch them.

This piece can be displayed as an either vertical or horizontal piece.

Original art on surfboard, shaped on a polyurethane blank, laminated with polyester resin and sanded finished. The board was painted using acrylic inks on top of the finished board and glossed with an acrylic varnish using a technique that the artist developed in the mid eighties.

6’5″ x 19 x 2.5″ comes with easy to install steel hanging brackets, and includes free shipping.

Although the surfboard shape is meant to be functional, it is not meant to be surfed on, but to be displayed indoors as an art piece, as with any other art piece it is best to keep it away from sunlight and harmful UV rays.
